In our universe, the Cybermen were created on the planet Mondas, later migrating to another world – Telos. Mondas was the twin planet of Earth, so there has always been an affinity between the origins of the Cybermen and our own planet. In the parallel universe the Doctor, Mickey and Rose visit, the Cybermen are created on Earth itself. The location may have changed, their design might be subtly different, but the Cybermen are the same – terrifying – creatures. The globally powerful Cybus Industries creates the Cybermen in huge factories from living humans, replacing their bodily organs and limbs with mechanical versions. They also ‘enhance’ the brains, removing the weakness of emotion and the sense of pain. The resulting Cybermen are incredibly strong and ruthlessly efficient, but without fear or emotion or humanity.
