The Ice Warriors

first appearance: "The Ice Warriors" (1967)

last appearance: "Face the Raven" (2015)

planet of origin: Mars

created by: Brian Hayles

The Ice Warriors are originally from the planet Mars. As their name implies, they prefer a cold environment and are susceptible to heat. They are upright reptilian warriors, encased in a shell-like armour so that very little of their actual bodies is visible – or vulnerable to attack. As a species, they have a long tradition of nobility and honour. The Ice Warriors that the Doctor first encounters have been frozen for centuries beneath a glacier. The later Ice Warriors try to invade Earth and adapt the planet to suit their race. In the far future, they are friendly members of the Galactic Federation, though a group of them wants to return to the belligerent days of their past.
